SomatoEmotional Release…. ever heard of it??

What is SomotoEmotional Release (SER)?
SER  is a therapeutic procedure, created by osteopath Dr. John Upledger, that uses the concepts of craniosacral therapy to free the body and mind of the discomforting side effects of trauma. This form of therapy focuses on establishing a strong mind-body connection in order for the release of emotional trauma and the resolution of physical symptoms.
Many times, the emotional symptoms that we experience during trauma remain unresolved as the body heals. In order for these remaining symptoms of trauma to heal permanently, a mind-body connection has to be made. Accordingly, SER is used as a tool for healing issues that require a mind-body communication.

What is the purpose of SER?
The purpose of SER is to release physiological and associated emotional tensions which are interfering with a person's health or well-being. This tension can often be caused by old trauma. Trauma frequently has an emotional component, but is also could be purely physical. Experience has shown that in cases where an emotional component is present, the SER process can significantly reduce the therapeutic time needed for the release of body tension and physical symptoms.

Who can benefit from SER?
The SER process has helped people recover from a variety of physical ailments including chronic pain, headaches, lower back pain, sciatica, digestive disturbances, asthma, difficulty sleeping. It has also helped patients who are currently undergoing psychotherapy, by creating an increased connection and integration between the patient’s conscious mind and subconscious feelings and memories. It has been used successfully with people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (i.e. perinatal and early childhood traumas). It is especially valuable for patients who have difficulty getting to their feelings, or find safe, nurturing touch helpful.

Can SER work replace Psychotherapy?
No. SER is a hands-on process which can greatly enhance and complement the valuable integrative work which takes place in psychotherapy sessions.
